The Executioner
In the spring of 2016, I was invited to take part in the exhibition Manyfolds at Kunsthal Charlottenborg. The exhibition was organized by One Thousand Books. 13 invited publishers were invited to make an exhibition based on a book. When I first came across the book Skarpretteren (The Executioner) from 1986 by Ursula Reuter Christiansen I was intrigued by the charismatic female figure in the images. Later I realized it was the artist herself in the images and that the book was based on a film of the same name from 1971, a key work within early Danish feminist art. I invited the artist Ursula Reuter Christiansen to be part of the exhibition and together we created an installation based on the film and a reinterpretation of the book from 1986 with Reuter’s original text rewritten by Gitte Broeng.
The project was subsequently sold to Statens Museum for Kunst and exhibited there and awarded Schadeprisen.
